Jewelry store robbed, suspect sought

Statesville Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at Kay Jewelers on Turnersburg Highway 187. The incident occurred Friday (August 16) at approximately 12:25 p.m.

According to a Statesville Police press release, officers arrived at the scene to find a suspect armed with a hammer threatening store employees and smashing display cases in an attempt to steal various pieces of jewelry. The suspect then fled the scene in a white BMW with a dark-colored license plate. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Officers then began searching the area while detectives investigated the crime scene. A short time later, the suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned at the end of Pump Station Road, not far from the scene of the robbery.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office provided additional assistance by setting up a security perimeter and deploying a tracking dog unit. Despite a thorough search, including tracking dog tracking and aerial surveillance with a drone, the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a white male with long dark hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black sneakers, dark gloves, a gray shirt with a short sleeve black shirt over it, and a black face covering. He was carrying a black and red duffel bag.
