JF Kennedy: Never-before-seen footage of JFK assassination, shot by Texas businessman, surfaces: What we know

A new video showing the moments after the shooting of John F. Kennedy in 1963 has surfaced and will be auctioned later this month. The footage shows the President’s motorcade speeding down a Dallas highway toward a hospital. The footage was shot by Dale Zimmerman Sr. came to Lemmon Avenue in Dallas to film Kennedy and his motorcade. But when he arrived, the motorcade had already passed. Carpenter rushed to Stemmons Freeway, and by that time Kennedy had already been shot. The footage remained a family heirloom. When Carpenter died in 1991, the reel went to his wife, then daughter, and finally grandson.

What we know about the footage
According to RR Auction, where the film is for sale, it is the only known film of Kennedy’s car on the highway.
Footage shot by Abraham Zapruder, a passerby, provided details of the assassination. This new footage shows what happened before and shortly after the Zapruder film was shot.
It’s over a minute long and contains nothing that would change what we already know.
Outside of Carpenter’s family, only a handful of people have seen the footage.
Secret agent Clint Hill, who jumped out of a car behind Kennedy and then climbed into the president’s car, also saw the footage.
Carpenter’s grandson, James Gates, said that the film was not talked about much in the family, even though everyone knew about it.
Gates said he came into possession of the film in 2009 or 2010 when his mother gave him a milk crate containing about 30 rolls of film, including this one. When he first saw the Kennedy footage, he was not impressed because Kennedy was not in it, but he was impressed by Hill’s bravery.
Kennedy is not visible in the video as he was lying across the back seat with his head on his wife’s lap.
