In a 2023 episode of JRE, Rogan and guest Andrew Schultz talked about the time North Korean YouTuber and author Yeonmi Park appeared on their podcasts. But little did she know about the inside joke Schultz and Rogan made about her. When he talked about Park, the JRE host burst out laughing. But then he revealed the origin of the weightlifting joke.

The UFC co-commentator apologized and revealed how he texted Schultz before Park appeared on JRE. Rogan sent a picture of the YouTuber, then a weightlifter, then a weightlifter emoji. And Schultz labeled it “heavyweights.”

Of course, Schultz felt pretty bad about it. After all, Park was a survivor who fled North Korea at 13 and had a horrific story about how she came to the U.S. To ease his conscience, Schultz called Park just before she appeared on his podcast and revealed the true meaning of “Heavies.”

Schultz remembered“So I say, ‘Hey, I’m so grateful you stopped by. I just want you to know something. You know the joke here. I don’t want anyone to make fun of you. I just want you to stick with it. Have you seen people put like a weightlifting emoji under your Instagram?’ And she says, so sweet, she says, ‘Yeah, I thought they thought I was getting fat.’ She thought they said she was fat the whole time!”

But laughter wasn’t the only emotion Rogan shared with Park in JRE episode #1681. He also gave the YouTuber some advice.

JRE moderator gives advice to Yeonmi Park

During the conversation with Park, Rogan quoted Jordan Peterson, a Canadian clinical psychologist and motivational speaker, who claimed that people should now be weak, submissive and pacifist. Instead, they should learn how to become a monster and control the monster. He added that it is actually better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener fighting in a war.

Rogan continued: “Because that doesn’t mean you can’t be kind if you’re strong. But it does mean you can’t be strong if you’re weak. If you’re weak, you’re screwed. And there are a lot of weak people in the country right now trying to take control. And they’re rallying all the other weak people.” That was actually one of the best pieces of advice the UFC co-commentator has ever given, don’t you think?
