Jon Bon Jovi saves a woman in distress on a bridge in new video footage

Jon Bon Jovi was filming a music video on Tuesday, September 10, when he helped rescue a woman in distress on a pedestrian bridge in Nashville.

On Wednesday, September 11, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released surveillance footage from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. The YouTube video, which has since been removed from the platform, showed the musician approaching the unidentified woman standing on the ledge.

After a few minutes alone, the Bon Jovi frontman and another woman help carry the woman in crisis to a safer part of the bridge.

Bon Jovi continues to talk to the woman in crisis before they leave the area together.

“Thank you to @jonbonjovi and his team who assisted a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to get off the edge above the Cumberland River and get to safety,” the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“We all have to do our part to protect each other,” added MNPD Chief John Drake.

A spokesman for Bon Jovi was not immediately available for comment.

The musician was filming a music video on the bridge, which is open to the public, at the time of the incident and offered his help.

Bon Jovi’s foundation, the JBJ Soul Foundation, regularly works with people in crisis situations ranging from hunger to homelessness and other issues, so he has extensive training in speaking to people in crisis, PEOPLE confirms.

The mission of the JBJ Soul Foundation, according to its website, is to “recognize and maximize the human potential of people experiencing hunger, poverty and homelessness by providing assistance in establishing programs that provide food and affordable housing while supporting social services and job training programs.”

In February, Bon Jovi was named MusiCares Person of the Year for his philanthropic work.

MusiCares executive director Laura Segura praised Bon Jovi in ​​a statement after announcing him as the October 2023 honoree.

“His remarkable contributions to rock ‘n’ roll have left a lasting mark not only on the music industry, but on the hearts of countless fans around the world,” said Segura. “In addition, his longstanding commitment to providing food for those who are homeless and in need inspires us all. We look forward to celebrating him and the many ways he has made a difference in this world.”

The latest album by Bon Jovi, Foreverwas released in June.
