The Green Bay Packers found themselves in a desperate situation at the end of their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles and then lost their starting quarterback Jordan Love.

With just five seconds left in the game and trailing 34-29, Love was caught in the pocket and faced what could have been a game-winning sack. He managed to get the ball to running back Josh Jacobs.

However, Love went down unluckily when tackled by Josh Sweat and Jalen Carter. His ankle buckled, allowing Carter to roll and grab the quarterback’s legs. Jacobs ran the ball out of bounds to give the Packers another play, but the bigger concern was that Love was left on the ground clutching his leg.

Love was able to leave the field with help from the trainers. Backup quarterback Malik Willis came in to finish the game, but was sacked on his Hail Mary pass attempt by the Eagles’ Zack Baun as time expired for a 34-29 final.

Before leaving the game, Love threw for 260 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, completing 17 of 34 passes. It was his first regular-season game since signing a four-year, $220 million contract extension in late July that makes him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he didn’t know anything about Love’s status when asked by reporters after the game.
