Kathryn Hahn: Nude scene in “Agatha All Along” was not in the script

SPOILER WARNING: This story follows the plot developments in the first episode of “Agatha All Along,” currently streaming on Disney+.

It turned out that Was Agatha, all the time.

At the premiere of “Agatha All Along” on Wednesday – Marvel Television’s sequel to the critically acclaimed series “WandaVision” – viewers were treated to a much by star Kathryn Hahn, who wrote a piece of saucy Marvel history. Although Marvel hasn’t shied away from showing male buttocks – Hulk in Thor: Ragnaror, Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder – Hahn is the first woman to show her bare behind in a Marvel Studios project.

“Well, I thought it up,” explains Hahn diversity“I liked seeing her as exposed, literally, as possible, reflecting her powerlessness in the present moment.”

The series follows the infamous Agatha Harkness after a suspicious goth named Teen (Joe Locke) helps her break free from the Scarlet Witch’s spell that trapped Agatha in a television universe (in her own head) in the town of Westview at the end of “WandaVision.” In order for Agatha to return to reality, she must shed all of her old personas from “WandaVision” — literally, by emerging from the spell with no clothes on, only her hair strategically draped across her chest.

“At that point in the series, all of her power was taken away from her,” Hahn says. “I mean, she really had nothing at that point, and so it was about portraying that gap between that moment and when she got her power back.”

According to showrunner Jac Schaeffer, Hahn deviated from the script when filming Agatha’s decision to leave her house while still naked. Hahn was scripted to grab a robe before running outside, but she changed her mind when she thought about what Agatha herself would actually do in that moment.

“Kathryn was like, ‘Would she grab the robe? I don’t think she would grab the robe. I think she really wouldn’t mind being naked in front of the neighbors,'” says Schaeffer. “I told her, ‘That’s the best idea I’ve ever heard.’ Kathryn has done so much work and she’s done a lot of nudity and things, and so it felt very subversive to bring Kathryn Hahn’s nudity into the MCU as well.”

The scene in question was shot with cameras strategically placed to hide the parts of Hahn’s body that weren’t supposed to be seen, and the coverage provided by her hair did the rest. Agatha starts a conversation with her neighbor John (played by David A. Payton) and immediately freaks out when she realizes she’s being held captive by Wanda. The cameras switch between the two actors as he tries to alert her to her naked state and hilariously persuade her to put some clothes on.

Finally she goes back inside, puts on her bathrobe and begins to think about her escape.

“It’s so true to her character and makes me laugh,” says Schaeffer. “Plus, she looks incredible.”
