Keith Lee doesn’t keep his thoughts on the Washington, DC restaurant scene to himself.

Known for his candid and often viral reviews, the TikTok food critic recently shared his less-than-stellar experience after visiting several restaurants in the country’s capital.

Although I visited about a dozen places, Keith Lee and his family decided to publish only about three of them, arguing that many of the reviews were not “constructive.”

In a TikTok post shared on Monday (26 August) Keith Lee explained,

“Many of these videos are not constructive in my opinion.”

One of the most revealing moments was when lee shared a clip of a deleted review in which he is seen with a takeaway plate of whiting, sweet potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

He did not mince his words about the unpleasant smell of the food and explained:

“The smell of it… it’s insane! It smells like shellfish, it smells like frozen fish. It smells almost inedible.”

lee criticized the restaurant’s “unprofessional” service, noting that the employee who prepared his food did not wash his hands or wear gloves when handling the money, which contributed to his disappointing experience.

In addition to the specific incidents lee highlighted a broader problem he noticed during his food tour of Washington DC: an overemphasis on alcohol consumption.

In an earlier post he stated:

“In my opinion, it was very difficult to find restaurants. All the restaurants are directly geared towards alcohol. If you don’t drink, the choice seems limited.”

The content creator’s criticism received a great response from social media users, with many agreeing with his recent assessment.

One Instagram user commented:

“At this point he’s proven himself to be fair, no matter what city! Don’t be mad because your food joints suck!”

Another expressed a similar opinion, saying:

“I love his honesty and hope the Keith Lee effect leads to change in the DMV food industry because he doesn’t lie. It sucks. We’re just used to it.”

A third commenter expressed relief that someone was finally addressing the issue:

“I’m glad someone finally said it. These places sell alcohol to get you so drunk you don’t care how bad the food is. I speak as a newcomer from Chicago (where the food is exceptional). I have SUFFERED.”
