CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood High girls soccer team opened its 2024-25 home season with a game against the McEwen Warriors on Thursday, August 22. McEwen got off to a quick start in the contest, and despite the Knights pressuring their opponents throughout the night, they lost 3-0. With the loss, Kenwood High’s record drops to 1-1 on the season.

Early in the game, the Knights were able to control the ball and had possession most of the time. However, McEwen scored three goals in a ten-minute span midway through the first half while Kenwood remained scoreless for the first 45 minutes. Kenwood head coach Derek Catanzaro believed the momentum gained by McEwen led to the loss.

“Overall we played well, they just scored those three goals and that changed the feel of the game,” Catanzaro told Clarksville Now.

In the second half, Kenwood High put pressure on the Warriors on offense, consistently having possession on their side of the court and firing shots on goal. Unfortunately, the Knights couldn’t find the net and despite a second-half shutout, Kenwood High lost 3-0. Catanzaro shared his thoughts on his team’s overall performance after the game.

“We are improving, there’s no doubt about that,” said Catanzaro. “In the second half we had the ball under control most of the time. Apart from those three goals, we just played well tonight.”
