Kim Kardashian and “Monsters” actors visit the Menendez brothers in prison

Kim Kardashian visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego on Saturday to speak about prison reform with a large group of inmates, including brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Kardashian was joined by her sister Khloe Kardashian, her mother Kris Jenner, film producer Scott Budnick and actor Cooper Koch, who plays Erik in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix biopic series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”

The Menendez brothers, who shot and killed their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez in 1989, were found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They were sentenced to life in prison without parole.

On Friday, Erik sharply criticized “Monsters,” saying the second installment of the Netflix anthology series continued “disastrous character portrayals” of him and his brother Lyle.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must say that I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives that he can do this without malicious intent,” Menendez wrote in his statement, posted on his wife, Tammi Menendez’s X-Account (formerly Twitter).

Kardashian recently worked with Murphy on another version of “American Horror Story.” The actress and reality star also regularly visits prisons to learn about rehabilitation programs and prison reform, and to talk about what she sees on Kardashian’s TV shows and on Diversity’s summit on judicial reform.

Earlier this year, Kardashian met with “Monsters” star Chloë Sevigny, who plays Kitty Menendez in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” for diversity Actors about actors. Together they spoke about the Menendez family before the season was released.

Sevigny spoke about the challenges she faced in playing the role of Menendez’s matriarch, saying, “We’re playing interpretations of her, so I’m not necessarily playing her truth, which I found very difficult.”

“I grew up right on the street where this all happened and everyone went to the same school,” Kardashian replied. “I remember hearing about this case. But my dad drove me past the house and told me the story. And he had been in the house. Since the boys are still alive, would you be open to them trying to contact you?”

“I think this is a sensitive subject, and I also think the legal aspects are very dangerous,” Sevigny said. “I’ve committed a lot of true crimes, and frankly, I find it a little mentally exhausting just to think about this responsibility to the victims, even to the murderers and their families.”

TMZ first reported on Kardashian’s visit.
