Kirk Cousins leads last-minute comeback win in Philadelphia

Kirk Cousins led a last-minute touchdown drive and the Atlanta Falcons surprised the Philadelphia Eagles with a 22-21 come-from-back victory on Monday.

Trailing 18-15, the Falcons launched an offense from their own 30-yard line with no timeouts and just one minute and 39 seconds left on the clock. But Cousins efficiently marched the team down the field in six plays and 65 seconds, finding Drake London for the game-winning touchdown with less than 40 seconds left to play.

The Eagles were unable to respond as the team’s final drive was stopped by an interception by quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The hectic ending came after a game that resembled a throwback. Both teams were more comfortable with their running attacks before Atlanta took things to the extreme with its final touchdown drive. Philadelphia ran for 186 yards on 37 attempts, while the Falcons ran for 152 yards on 28 attempts.

The Eagles controlled the clock and were in a position to decide the game late in the fourth quarter.

Facing a third-and-3 attempt at Atlanta’s 10-yard line, running back Saquon Barkley dropped a pass that would have most likely resulted in a first down. Had he completed it, Philadelphia could have kneeled the ball to run out the clock. Instead, the Eagles opted for a field goal on fourth down, opening the door for the lead drive.

Cousins finished the game 20 of 29 passing for 241 yards and two touchdowns, a marked improvement from his debut with the Falcons in Week 1. Hurts was 23 of 30 passing for 183 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 85 yards and scored a touchdown.

Philadelphia dropped to 1-1 with the loss and will face the New Orleans Saints and their strong offense in Week 3.

Atlanta improved its game to 1-1 with the win. The Falcons next play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
