Kitchen fire leads to temporary closure of a restaurant

At approximately 6:27 p.m. Saturday, the Turlock and Modesto fire departments, Turlock police, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit and American Medical Response responded to a structure fire at the Roth SocialHouse in the 3100 block of Hotel Drive.

Several people reported seeing black smoke rising from the roof. Among them was an employee who said the fire probably started at a grill and everyone was evacuated.

Sergeant Argueta was nearby and was the first to arrive on the scene. He found two employees on the roof attempting to contain the fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed smoke was coming from the roof.

Firefighters began investigating and discovered active flames in an exhaust system above the grill. They then initiated an attack strategy and were able to bring the fire under control within half an hour.

Crews remained on site for an extended period of time conducting investigations, overhaul, recovery and other post-fire activities.

The Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Company also arrived on scene to ensure supplies, while the Modesto Fire Department provided supplies to the city throughout the incident.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are temporarily closed,” Roth SocialHouse posted on social media. “We will reopen soon. Thank you for your patience.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with helpful information is asked to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit at 209-525-5537.
