Laurel businesses launch food drives for Mission at the Cross

LAUREL, Mississippi (WDAM) – Businesses in Laurel are supporting a local nonprofit with some food drives.

The food collection benefits the Mission at the Cross in Laurel.

It is a one-year program for men with addiction problems.

To help, the Dixie Electric Power Association has launched a peanut butter and jelly drive.

The company collaborates with several cooperatives nationwide to carry out this campaign every year.

“We are proud to support our local charities that reach out to different parts of our community,” said Amanda Mills, communications manager for Dixie Electric and DE Fastlink. “In this case, we are especially keen to help those who are in difficult situations so we can provide them with a nutritious meal to help them get back on their feet.”

Thermo Kool will also soon begin its nonperishable food drive to benefit Mission at the Cross.

Businesses are asked to set up containers for food donations in their stores.

The mission explained that food supplies sometimes become scarce and donations are always helpful.

“We accept donations from different businesses all over the South,” said house manager Allen Langston. “It takes a lot to feed all the people we have right now. We have 22, so we need a whole lot of food to feed everyone three times a day.”

Peanut butter and jelly donations can be dropped off at any Dixie Electric office.

The deadline is September 20th.
