Lauren Sanchez responds to criticism of her daring outfits – and reveals people’s cruel words brought her to TEARS

Lauren Sanchez has admitted that nasty comments from internet trolls brought her to tears – as she hit back at people who referred to her only as Jeff Bezos’ fiancée.

The 54-year-old former journalist spoke about the terrible downsides of fame during a conversation with Moira Forbes, Executive Vice President of Forbes, at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit 2024 on Wednesday.

The former TV presenter, who came into the spotlight after her affair with Amazon founder Jeff, 60, came to light in 2019, admitted she was moved to tears by the online hate she has faced over the years.

Lauren, who is often spotted hanging out with other celebrities and attending elite events, said she “never” wanted the attention, but added that her billionaire fiancé often “encourages” her to “show herself.”

She also addressed those who had “dismissed” her “successful career” because of Jeff’s accomplishments, insisting that she was more than just his future wife.

Lauren Sanchez has admitted that nasty comments on the internet brought her to tears – when she turned down people who only referred to her as Jeff Bezos’ fiancée

“It is not lost on me that most of you know me as Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, I understand that,” she told the crowd during the event.

“But I can choose to do something, or I can choose to do nothing. I choose to do something.”

Lauren – who runs her own aerial filming and production company, is vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, is currently planning an all-women’s trip to space and recently released her own children’s book – praised Jeff for constantly “encouraging her to go out and do her thing.”

“Jeff gets me out there and he encourages me to go out there and do my thing,” she gushed. “And I’m lucky to have a partner like that. We really support each other.”

When Moira asked Lauren about her reaction to people “dismissing” her “successful career” because of her partner, the mother of three admitted that she has been dealing with it her entire life.

“I’m used to being underestimated. I’ve been underestimated for a very long time, so this doesn’t shock me. It motivates me,” she said.

“People like to pigeonhole you, but I don’t fit into that box. I never have. As a journalist, as a pilot, as a mother and even as a fiancée.”

“People want me to dress, look or act a certain way. But I’m just as authentic as I can be.

Lauren, who is often spotted with other celebrities, said she “never” wanted the attention, but added that her billionaire fiancé often “encourages” her to “show herself.”

“People put you in a box because it makes them feel more comfortable. They feel more comfortable with it. But I say, ‘OK, I’m going to embarrass people, here we go.’ I embrace it.”

“Jeff gets me out there and he encourages me to go out there and do my thing,” she gushed. “And I’m lucky to have a partner like that. We really support each other.”

But the brunette beauty admitted she struggled with the sudden spotlight on her after news of her romance with Jeff emerged.

“It’s interesting because I’ve been in the news for 20 years, but now the audience is reaching a lot more,” she explained.

“At 54, I’m just starting to live my own life and it’s nerve-wracking. It scares me to put myself out there.

“It hurts my feelings. I feel hurt. But my sister says, ‘Chin up and carry on, it’s just a few people.’ I really feel like I have a purpose.”

She said fame often makes her “feel small” and she doesn’t wish that on “anyone.”

“I don’t wish fame on anyone, I never wanted it,” she said. “You can hide from it because you’re afraid to show yourself and have people who don’t know you comment on your life.”

“I shed a few tears, believe me. But my sister will say, ‘Get up and take a shower.'”

Since her romance with Jeff came to light in 2019, the former journalist has slowly become one of the most recognizable faces in the world – she has tons of celebrity friends, attends top events with her Amazon billionaire fiancé, and even poses for Vogue magazine.

They are often seen on luxurious getaways, flying on private jets, dining at the world’s hottest restaurants, designer shopping sprees, yacht cruises and being invited to parties with A-list stars.

However, she also stressed that there is much more to her than what one sees on the Internet, adding: “You can’t really know someone from a photo.”

“They like to photograph us at red carpet events or on vacation, but that’s only a tiny part of us. It’s easy to judge from a photo, but people don’t really know me.”

In the end, Lauren told Moira that she was willing to accept the downsides of fame if it meant she had the chance to make a difference.

“If it gives me a platform to talk about climate, courage and decency, then bring it on. I’m ready for it, let’s do it,” she concluded.

“Write nice comments. Why are people so mean right now? Because they get a lot of attention for it.”

“But we want to pay attention to people who are polite and educate other people.”
