MANCHESTER, NH – Lebanon Municipal Airport has received a portion of the $8.8 million in Federal Aviation Administration airport modernization grants available to the state this year.

Lebanon Municipal Airport received $302,584 to expand and upgrade its runway, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday. LEB joins Manchester-Boston Regional and Pease International airports in receiving grants under the bipartisan Airport Improvement Grants Act this year.

The grant to Lebanon was one of $566.4 million in 267 grants to 44 states announced by the FAA in its ninth such announcement. A total of $2.9 billion has been allocated for this year.

New Hampshire airports are set to receive up to $8,852,994, but that’s no guarantee that the 15 approved airports will get the money. Eligible airports will be allocated an amount to use on infrastructure projects that meet program requirements, but they may be approved for less. The Lebanon project could have received up to $1 million, according to the FAA.

Grants are announced approximately once a month and must be approved by Congress before they are announced.

Lebanon Municipal Airport is a tower-controlled municipal airport that offers daily commercial flights by Cape Air to Boston and White Plains, New York. It is expanding and improving the taxiway on one of its runways and shortening the other to bring them into compliance with FAA regulations.

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport received $488,562 in May to assist with construction, installation and expansion of lighting. In 2022, MHT received $3.5 million through the program.

Portsmouth International Airport in Pease received $1,431,749 in July to rebuild runways. The airport will receive similar amounts in fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

The FAA lists possible 2024 grants for Nashua, Berlin, Claremont, Concord, Haverhill, Keene, Laconia, Newport, Rochester and Whitefield. The program began in 2022 and runs through 2026.
