Lidl opens new location in Manhattan

Lidl US has announced a new location in New York City.

The 23,000-square-foot store, expected to open in summer 2025, will be Lidl’s third in Manhattan. The new store will be located at 408 Grand Street on the city’s Lower East Side.

Lidl announced in a press release that construction on the site will begin shortly.

Lidl has signed a lease agreement for the site with the non-profit organization Grand Street Guild, which advocates for affordable housing.

“We have made a very careful and deliberate effort to find the ideal group that can effectively utilize this retail space,” said Kevin Cronin, board chairman of the Grand Street Guild, in a statement. “Given our long history of serving the residents of our buildings and the surrounding neighborhood, we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Lidl US, and we are especially pleased with their strong approach and practice of corporate social responsibility.”

Lidl will appoint Marin Architects as official architects for the project and CBRE represented the retailer in the transaction.

In May 2023, Lidl announced plans for its second Manhattan location in the Chelsea neighborhood, with an opening scheduled for 2026. The grocer’s first Manhattan store is scheduled to open in Harlem in 2022.
