Lincoln Park Farmers Market receives national recognition

Lincoln Park Farmers Market receives national recognition

DULUTH, Minnesota (Northern News Now) – Every Thursday, large crowds flock to Lincoln Park in search of all the locally grown ingredients for a balanced diet.

A tradition so steeped in quality and tradition that the neighborhood farmers market was chosen as the host site for the state’s National Farmers Market Week celebrations.

Kayla Pridmore has served as the Seeds of Success Manager at Community Action Duluth at the Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market for three years.

“It was a very satisfying feeling to be invited to host. It was a real recognition of the growth and work we have put into this market,” said Pridmore.

According to the Minnesota Farmers’ Market Association, Pridmore is right.

There are about 375 markets in the state with more than 10,000 traders.

The Duluth Market was chosen as the host this year by the association and its Director of Engagement and Inclusion, Sina War, because they wanted to hold the celebration in the northern region this year after having it in Winona and the Twin Cities for the past two years.

“They work hard to serve their community in the way that is needed,” War said.

Through programs like EBT Matching, Power of Produce and Produce Prescriptions, they can provide their community with greater access to fresh and nutritious food.

“That’s when I learned about the great work they do to provide food access to their community,” War said.

In addition to its outreach programs to local residents, the Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market is also dedicated to supporting its neighbors who want to share more than just food.

“We told all the neighbors, ‘Hey, if you make music, if you do anything, we want you to participate in the market,'” Pridmore said.

The organizers would like to remind everyone that there are markets here not only in summer.

The Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market takes place every Thursday and moves indoors during the colder months.
