Linkin Park announces new band for Wednesday amid reunion rumors

Linkin Park announces new band for Wednesday amid reunion rumors

Among other major reunions rumored to be announced this week, Linkin Park is announcing a big announcement for Wednesday, and it could well be a reunion with a new singer. The alternative rock band posted a countdown on their website that is set to end on Wednesday, August 28, and the Danny Wimmer Festival Welcome to Rockville shared the same post, suggesting that a Linkin Park reunion could be seen on the Danny Wimmer Festival circuit next year.

Rumors of a Linkin Park reunion have been swirling throughout 2024, and it has been reported that booking agency WME is currently accepting offers for a Linkin Park reunion tour and festival appearances for 2025. The rumored reunion is set to feature original members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave Farrell, as well as a new singer to take the place of the late Chester Bennington. Rumors emerged back in March that Linkin Park were looking for a new singer after remarks made by Orgy’s Jay Gordon in an interview with Wired In The Empire. Gordon stated that Linkin Park are “still trying,” adding, “It’s going to be tough without Chester, but we’ll see. I heard they have a singer now. That’s what I heard.”

After the interview was shared online, Gordon retracted his comments and stated: “As far as this thing with the singer of Linkin Park goes, I don’t know anything about it.”

However, Billboard recently reported that they were told by a source that the band is looking for a singer for a reunion tour planned for 2025. Additionally, there were rumors that Evanescence singer Amy Lee was in talks to front the band’s reunion lineup, but she denied all claims, stating in an interview, “That’s an incredible compliment, I haven’t heard anything about that. No, I haven’t been contacted by (Linkin Park) or anything like that. But (I’m a) huge fan and feel like our worlds, our fan bases are largely made up of the same people.” Regardless of whether Lee isn’t the rumored new singer, Evanescence and Linkin Park would certainly make a solid touring package if this reunion comes true.

While there is no confirmed Linkin Park reunion yet, it’s worth noting that rumors or “sources” circulating about reunions, and especially rumors that reputable booking agencies are accepting offers, are usually a promising sign that a reunion is indeed planned. Take Pantera, for example. In 2022, rumors and reports emerged that the legendary metal band was accepting tour offers and being booked for reunion shows in 2023, all of which turned out to be true.

On Wednesday, all those rumors about a Linkin Park reunion will either come to an end or be proven true, because that’s when whatever the band is hinting at with their ambitious countdown will be revealed.
