Linkin Park appoints Emily Armstrong as singer and plans tour and album

Linkin Park’s new co-singer will be Emily Armstrong of the band Dead Sara, the band announced during a live performance on Thursday. Colin Brittain, songwriter and producer for G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, will also join the group as drummer.

The announcement was made Thursday as Linkin Park debuted their new single “The Emptiness Machine,” the band’s first new release in seven years and the first track from an upcoming album titled “From Zero.”

“From Zero” will be released on November 15th (via Warner Records) as Linkin Park’s first full-length album since “One More Light” in 2017, which was also Linkin Park’s last album before the death of lead singer Chester Bennington.

The group will also embark on a six-date arena tour in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota. The full tour itinerary can be found below.

Linkin Park – consisting of its new members plus Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn – performed together for the first time in Los Angeles on Thursday for fans who had tickets and were bused to a studio lot. The event was streamed live and can be viewed on Linkin Park’s official online channels over the next 24 hours.

According to a press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell and Hahn “quietly began to reconnect” in recent years and “instead of trying to restart the band,” they worked with numerous musicians and “developed a special bond with Armstrong and Brittain.”

Speaking about the new era, Shinoda said in a statement: “Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both that humble beginning and the journey we are currently on. Sonically and emotionally, it’s about the past, present and future – embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with deep appreciation for our new and long-time bandmates, our friends, our family and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years and look forward to the journey ahead.”

“The Emptiness Machine” is intended to “channel the DNA of Linkin Park.” Shinoda said the band feels “really empowered by this new lineup and the vibrant and energetic new music we’ve made together,” adding that they “weave together the sonic touchpoints we’re known for and are still exploring new ones.”

Tickets for the From Zero tour will go on presale to the LP Underground fan club on September 6th, with general sales beginning the following day, September 7th. The band will also be doing their first interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music on September 6th.

This announcement follows the release of Linkin Park’s Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) earlier this spring. The 20-song LP features the band’s biggest hits from over two decades. Released via Warner Records, it includes songs such as “In the End,” “Burn It Down” and a Jay-Z mashup, “Numb/Encore,” as well as “Lost,” which helped return the band’s previous LP, Meteora, to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
