Who doesn’t love a surprise ending?

The 76th Emmy Awards ended with a surprising twist, as the Max series “Hacks” bested one of the night’s dominant winners — FX’s “The Bear” — to win best comedy. Don’t get us wrong, “The Bear” took home plenty of gold on Sunday, winning five Emmys, including three acting nods. But “Hacks” had only picked up two awards by the time the show closed — one for Jean Smart and one for outstanding writing in a comedy. (Max and CNN are both part of Warner Bros. Discovery.)

In the drama categories, the historical drama “Shōgun” – only the second non-English language program to be nominated in the Outstanding Drama category (the first in 2022 was “Squid Game”) – received four awards, including individual honors for the acting performance of two of its two stars and for Outstanding Drama.

“Baby Reindeer,” a tough story about trauma and healing, won four awards, including most outstanding miniseries.
