This is what we now know about the swing states 2024
Although the election is at stake in seven swing states, candidates have multiple opportunities to capture 270 Electoral College votes. Here’s what we know now.
Happy primary day, Delaware. Polls open at 7 a.m.
It’s a big day filled with hotly contested races, including determining who the major parties’ candidates for governor will be in the general election in November. And in some areas where the number of registered Democrats far exceeds the number of Republicans, primary day is often crucial in determining who, for example, will be the next mayor of Wilmington.
We will be here all day bringing you news from the elections and, if necessary, the results of the count.
In Delaware, it is not possible to register to vote and actually vote on the same day. The deadline to register for today’s primary was August 17.
You may be wondering: Why?
Delaware is one of about half of U.S. states that do not allow same-day voter registration, but attempts are being made.
The General Assembly passed a law in 2022 that would allow this as part of numerous efforts in recent years to make voting easier. Conservative interests have challenged these efforts in court and in 2022 were successful in getting the Delaware Supreme Court to strike down the state’s same-day voter registration law.
So if you see your friends’ cool “I Voted” stickers today and feel left out, your next chance to get a cool sticker is in the general election in November.
Admittedly, the general election is in many ways (and for some people) less fun than the state primaries, but it’s still part of the process. The filing deadline for that in Delaware is October 12.

What you need to know before you vote this morning

Important note: You can only vote for the party you are registered for.
Only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in the primary election. You cannot change your party or indicate a new party at the polling place. When you enter the voting booth, you can only vote in races for your party. For example, a registered Republican can only vote in primaries between Republican candidates.
