WASHINGTON – Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Wednesday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, the latest high-profile Republican endorsement of the Democrats.

Cheney made his remarks during an appearance at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

“Because of the danger posed by Donald Trump, not only will I not vote for Donald Trump, I will vote for Kamala Harris,” Cheney said in a video of remarks posted on X.

The former congresswoman said in her speech that it was “critically important” that people understand that they “do not have the luxury of putting candidates’ names in their names, especially in swing states.”

Cheney previously served in the Republican caucus before being ousted for her criticism of former President Donald Trump. Cheney has also said that Trump would try to stay in power for more than four years if elected to a second term.

In August, the Harris team announced that it had more than two dozen Republican endorsements, many of them politicians who had been vocal in their opposition to Trump’s candidacy.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who like Cheney was a member of the Jan. 6 commission, also endorsed Harris. He had supported President Joe Biden when Biden was still in the race. Kinzinger spoke at the Democratic National Convention, where he said Trump had “suffocated the soul” of Republicans.
