Local cookie shop treats Central Texas teachers to cookies before school starts

ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) – Waco store Milk Bottle Cookies delivered free cookies to teachers in Central Texas districts for the fifth year in a row.

Milk Bottle Cookies plans to make deliveries to six school districts in Central Texas this year.

Over the past five years, the business has repeatedly asked for suggestions on social media about how schools can get free cookies.

Amanda Foster, a second-grade teacher at Robinson Elementary, said the delivery made her feel especially appreciated.

“I think it’s great that they take the time to show their appreciation to the teachers, especially when they’re going back to school after a summer vacation,” Foster said. “It’s just a nice welcome back to get us on our way.”

The idea came from shop owner Makenzie Asisi, who wanted to show teachers that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Cody Ferguson, executive director of Milk Bottle Cookies, said the deliveries are an important part of their work for the community.

“A small thing like dessert is a small thank you,” Ferguson said. “But hopefully we can all say ‘thank you’ to a teacher because they deserve it.”

Sara Laughlin, principal of Robinson Intermediate School, says that teaching is often a thankless profession and that this gesture makes a big difference.

“And just being noticed and seen is just one of those ‘Hey, that makes me feel good about the day,'” Laughlin said. “But that’s not why they’re in this business at all.”

Milk Bottle Cookies hopes to continue making deliveries annually.
