Local Harrisonburg company recognized for its sustainability practices

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)— Riner Rentals received a national award for workplace electric vehicle charging. The award recognizes the company’s commitment to community sustainability and workplace electric vehicle charging in its office.

Riner Rentals, based in Harrisonburg since 1999, is a property rental and management company for students and families. Virginia Clean Cities (VCC) nominated Riner Rentals for the Equal mobility creates opportunities for workplace electrification (EMPOWER) electric vehicle charging program. Gregory Brennan of Virginia Clean Cities says the initiative is accessible to all and a step forward in decarbonizing Virginia’s transportation sector.

“For us in Harrisonburg, that means all communities and all residents have charging options, whether they work at a chicken plant or at JMU,” Brennan said.

Brennan also says VCC is helping to provide EV chargers to rural areas through Rural reimagined. VCC can ship a charger to qualified locations free of charge and offers financial assistance to install the charger. Like Riner Rentals, VCC recommends those who are eligible to apply for workplace EV charging subsidies through EMPOWER.

“We want people to have the opportunity to drive electric vehicles/hybrid electric vehicles,” Brennan said.
