KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — Local radio station Fly FM is dedicating its airtime today to the protest solidarity song Hinds Hall by American rapper Macklemore for 24 hours straight.

The radio station, which made the announcement yesterday via Instagram, said the move was a sign of solidarity with the plight of the Palestinians while pushing for a ceasefire in Palestine.

“In solidarity with the Palestinian people, we have decided to pause our playlist for tomorrow (June 5) to use our platform to highlight ways you can support the Palestinian people,” they wrote in the post.

In addition to playing the song on repeat and giving talks on how to support Palestine while also running a fundraiser, Fly FM is also asking its listeners to wear the Palestinian colours to commemorate the day.

Meanwhile, Fly FM is also trying to get Macklemore, who just performed several shows in Australia and New Zealand last month, to come to Malaysia for a performance.

They are asking their followers to request a show via Macklemore’s official website and to tag Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the comments section in the hope that he will help bring the rapper to the country.

Macklemore’s Hinds Hall has become an anthem of Palestinian solidarity since its release in early May this year.

Accordingly TIMEThe song title refers to the recent siege of Hamilton Hall at Columbia University in the United States, in which pro-Palestinian protesters occupied the building and demanded that their university reduce its investment from Israel.

The activists, mostly students and faculty members, had renamed the hall “Hind’s Hall” in honor of six-year-old Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip.

The encampment in Columbia began on April 17 and was cleared on April 30 after dozens of protesters were arrested who had occupied the hall following confrontations with police.

Macklemore’s Hinds Hall The music video, which includes some footage of the protest, has been viewed over three million times on YouTube since its release.
