Local restaurant wins hearts with unique interpretations of a childhood favorite

SAN ANTONIO – In a world where fast food and fusion cuisine dominate the restaurant scene, a local eatery is winning hearts with a simple childhood favorite: peanut butter and jelly.

Jeremiah Burns, owner and operator of PB and J with Tay, is the mastermind behind the city’s first and only peanut butter and jelly restaurant. This cozy spot has been serving up unique and nostalgic sandwiches for nearly five years, making it a must-try in the Alamo City.

PB&J with Tay, named after Burns’ wife TayLynn and daughter Taylor, offers more than just the classic sandwich. “We have 12 signature sandwiches,” Burns explains, “and you can either make the PB and J your way or choose one of our creations.”

Some of the most popular options include Make My Tay with cream cheese and bacon and Pooh Bear with walnuts, bananas and honey, but the absolute favorite is the Strawberry Jalapeno Jelly, which is homemade and available in a jar.

The inspiration behind PB and J with Tay is rooted in nostalgia. “A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is just a real eye-catcher,” says Burns. “It reminds you of being a kid again. We all grew up with it.”

Burns has managed to capture that feeling and turn it into a restaurant that feels like home, complete with rustic chairs, aesthetic coffee cups and plates reminiscent of grandma’s cooking.

Burns also emphasizes the importance of cleanliness in his operation, a commitment that has already earned him three Blue Plate Awards. “Cleanliness is the backbone of organization and success in a business,” says Burns. “I want my customers to know that their health and well-being are a top priority.”

This commitment to a flawless environment has become a personal obsession for Burns and he believes it is key to the restaurant’s success.

If you’re looking for a meal that has both a taste of childhood and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, look no further than PB&J with Tay. As Burns puts it, “Kindness is really, really important in everything you do. We serve with love, and people feel that when they come in. That’s our secret.”

PB&J with Tay is a lunch-only restaurant open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., located in the Yard Shopping Center in Olmos Park.
