FAIRLEA, W.Va. (WVVA) – The State Fair of West Virginia offers many attractions, from food to rides to livestock shows. One of the State Fair’s hidden gems is the West Virginia Country Store on the fairgrounds.

Vendors from across the Mountain State have their wares on display for sale. At the village store, you’ll find wine from Raleigh County, roasted pecans from Jackson County, and even honey from Rimfire Apiary in Harrison County.

“I sell honey with different flavors. It all depends on what is blooming. My first honey flow is the fall olive. It blooms in late April, early May. Once the bloom is over, I take the honey, extract it and bottle it,” said Steven Hamrick, owner of Rimfire Apiary.

Hamrick sells pure and raw honey, which is available in the village store. Other vendors in the building include Daniel Vineyards, located in Crab Orchard in Raleigh County. They offer a wide variety of wines, including dry reds and whites.

“We specialize in dessert wines, so you’re looking for blackberries and raspberries. Our best seller is Sweet R and B, which has blackberries and raspberries and a little white grape added to it as well. A variety, a little bit of everything,” said Chad Daniel.

The Country Store is also home to Sassy Gals Gourmet Treats, located in Ripley in Jackson County. This stand features roasted pecans, moonshine bourbon and homemade dip mixes.

Business owner Ginger Harmon says she has been operating the village store since 2018. She says the people at the State Fair absolutely make the trip worthwhile.

“We have regular customers who come here and look for us, and we have new customers. We meet people from all over, which is wonderful. What keeps us coming back is the people,” Harmon said.
