Longoni: First Chukwueze and now Emerson

Samuel Chukwueze has performed very well in preseason after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign and Paulo Fonseca seems to be on to something and, as Andrea Longoni points out, the manager must do the same with Emerson Royal.

Emerson Royal is scheduled to arrive this evening. more precisely around 21:45 CESTand he will be the third new signing of the summer. However, he certainly won’t excite the fan base as much as Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic.

As Andrea Longoni pointed out in his latest editorial for MilanNews, we saw promising signs from Chukwueze in preseason, thanks in large part to Fonseca, and the manager now needs to do the same with Emerson Royal to get his career back on track.

“The third signing, Emerson Royal, was received with more scepticism by the Rossoneri fans than Morata and Pavlovic. The Brazilian will play in a position where there is certainly room for improvement compared to recent years, also to raise the general level of the team.

“He wasn’t so successful in the Premier League (but Conte respected him), while in La Liga a few years ago he looked like a player capable of great things. Fonseca will have to put in a lot of effort to revive him, as he seems to be doing with Chukwueze.

“The Nigerian seems to be different from what he was in a very disappointing season last season. Be careful, as we have only seen a few friendlies, but if he shows these improvements in official matches, then Milan could count on a ‘new signing’,” he writes.

The season opener is scheduled for next week, but before that Milan will face Monza in the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi. We won’t see Emerson Royal then, but some of the other new signings will play for the Rossoneri.
