Boston College bullies Florida State in stunning Labor Day | It’s time to trade Dju for Brock Glenn

State of Florida was stunned Boston College on Monday night, losing to the Eagles 28-13 at Doak Campbell Stadium.

quarterback DJ Uiagalelei completed 50 percent of his passes but couldn’t find a consistent rhythm in the final period. He showed flashes of ability, but ESPN commentator Louis Riddick believes the Seminoles still have a long way to go on offense before the passing game will be reliable in Tallahassee.

“There’s just no chemistry, no rhythm, no consistency that he can communicate with his wide receivers at this point,” Riddick told Scott Van Pelt after commentating on the game for ESPN. “And there’s really no second reaction, no dynamic component to his game… His counterpart on the other sideline today (Thomas Castellanos), you saw it. It didn’t have to be perfect for him. When things went a little bit wrong, he said, “You know what? I’m taking over now. I’m doing this.” Guess who was able to do that for Florida State a year ago before he got hurt? Jordan Travis.

“If you look at the Boston College-Florida State game at Boston College last year, Jordan Travis was putting pressure on Boston College’s defense. They didn’t have that component today.”

Riddick said Uiagaleleli either needs to become more efficient and consistent with his wide receivers or the passing game will always be a “frustrating” spot. So far in two games, Uiagaleleli has completed 58 percent of his passes (40 of 69) for 465 yards, one interception and one touchdown, both against Boston College.

If Uiagalelei isn’t able to perform at the same level as Travis did during his career for the ‘Noles, Florida State will have to look elsewhere for a leader. However, Riddick hasn’t seen anyone ready to fill that role in the two weeks he’s been watching this year’s Florida State football team.

“This is a team that is fighting right now to avoid having one of those imploding seasons that costs absolutely all kinds of people their jobs,” Riddick said. “This could get really ugly for them if the leadership of this football team – and I’m not talking about Mike Norvell – I’m talking about the locker room. They miss guys like Jordan Travis. They miss guys like Braden Fiske. They miss guys like Jared VersesGuys who are now professionals, who the team told me last year when I was here, these are the guys who stick together. These are the guys who form the foundation.

“These are the guys that turned around Mike Norvell’s time here and led them to a 13-0 season. Well, they’re gone. So who’s it going to be now? Did you see a single guy out there tonight who looked like he could grab this football team and say, ‘We need to wake up and get things going.’ I didn’t see him.”

Florida State is still searching for its new identity as it heads into Week 3. FSU will host Memphis There they hope to re-orient their season and put this 0-2 start behind them.
