Lakeland police closed one of the city’s major intersections Friday afternoon due to a “suspicious incident,” according to an LPD spokesman.
Lakeland Police were notified of a pressure cooker left near a trash can at one of the gas pumps at the Shell gas station (1920 Harden Blvd.).
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have requested that the Tampa Police Department Bomb Disposal Unit conduct a thorough investigation of the item,” LPD spokeswoman Stephanie Kerr wrote in a text message.
For approximately two hours, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., police closed more than a mile of Harden Boulevard, from Ariana Street southbound to Edgewood Drive, and all lanes of West Beacon Road, from Harden Boulevard eastbound to Lincoln Avenue.
Mobile cannabis pharmacy: According to the Polk Sheriff, three people sold marijuana from a bus and claimed no health insurance card was required.
All potentially affected businesses and residents in the area have been notified, Kerr said.
“The police came and told me I had to leave,” said station worker Radhika Karki. “We were closed for two hours.”
The roads were reopened around 2:30 p.m.
