Lucky Texas Quick Pick Gives Mega Millions Player 0 Million

A single ticket sold in Texas won the Mega Millions’ $810 million jackpot on Tuesday night, the lottery’s second-largest prize this year.

The winning numbers 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and 6 were won using a Quick Pick ticket sold at a Murphy USA gas station and convenience store in Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston.

Tuesday’s winner can choose an annual annuity paid over 30 years or claim a lump sum payment of $409.3 million.

The prize is the largest jackpot ever won by a Texas lottery player, according to Mega Millions officials. Overall, the Texas win is the seventh largest in Mega Millions history.

A grand prize of $1.602 billion purchased in August 2023 at a supermarket in Neptune Beach, Florida, remains the biggest win in Mega Millions history.

The largest Mega Millions prize this year came from a $1.128 billion winning ticket purchased in March at Rite Aid in Neptune Township, New Jersey.

A player from San Jose shared a $648 million prize with a woman from Georgia in 2013, the largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won by a Californian.

A ticket purchased Tuesday in the town of Floristan on the California-Nevada border near Truckee matched five of six numbers and secured a $605,656 prize. Other five-number winners came from Florida, New York and Washington and won $1 million.

California’s public schools quietly profited from the lottery, raking in $66.8 million in revenue associated with the jackpot, said Carolyn Becker, a spokeswoman for the California lottery.

The jackpot has grown since the last win on June 4, and has been surpassed 27 times. According to Becker, Californians contributed $167 million to the jackpot through sales, with about 40 percent being given back to schools.

The game, which costs $2 for a single ticket, is played in 45 states and Washington, D.C. Drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Tuesday’s prize was only the third Mega Millions jackpot won this year.

For comparison, Friday’s Mega Million jackpot is estimated at $20 million.
