Lyft and Bird have announced a partnership to integrate Bird scooters into the Lyft app. The integration is now live in over 25 U.S. cities, with more cities to follow in the next few weeks.
Building on Lyft’s partnership with Spin, now owned by Bird, this partnership aims to further position Lyft as a transportation platform by offering riders new, more cost-effective and sustainable ways to get from point A to point B.
The integration also ensures a seamless experience: passengers can easily rent and pay for Bird scooters in the Lyft app without having to download another app or add new payment information.
“As the leading provider of bikes and scooters in over 50 cities around the world, we are always striving to provide value to our riders and cities,” said Michael Brous, head of bikes and scooters at Lyft.
“By working with Bird, we can expand access to scooters so we can serve more people in more areas of the U.S. – all through the Lyft app.”
To see all available scooters, riders in select cities can tap the scooter icon at the bottom of the screen, which will display nearby scooters on the map.
Stewart Lyons, co-CEO of the Bird and Spin brands, commented: “We are excited to expand our existing successful partnership with our Spin brand and now provide the millions of Lyft users across the country with access to thousands of Bird vehicles.
“We continue to find new ways to integrate with comparable urban transportation solutions like Lyft’s because our ultimate goal is to make getting around cities with multimodal transportation as easy as using a private car.”
A Bird scooter can be unlocked through the Lyft app by scanning its QR code. Scooters that are part of the integration also feature a Lyft sticker.
