The last Macy’s store in Alabama is for sale.

According to a listing from SRS Real Estate Properties, the 225,763-square-foot Macy’s at Riverchase Galleria is for sale.

No decision yet on Macy’s closure

Is Macy’s closing? The final decision has not yet been made.

Here is Macy’s statement:

Our new strategy aims to modernize Macy’s, Inc. and improve the customer experience. We plan to close approximately 150 Macy’s stores over the next three years while continuing to invest in our 350 stores. A final decision on specific locations is pending.

Background: An assessment is currently underway comparing the potential property value with the future profitability potential for revenue growth. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers. If we ever close this location, it will be in 2025 at the earliest.

The last Macy’s to close in Birmingham was at Brookwood Mall in 2022. The store at Riverchase Galleria is the only one remaining in the state of Alabama.
