Madalyn Price wins two competitions at the USLA National Lifeguard Championships

Madalyn Price of the Capitola Beach Lifeguard Association took first place in two events at the USLA National Lifeguard Championships, held Wednesday through Friday in South Padre Island, Texas.

Price took first place in the Open Women’s Beach Flags and the 90-meter sprint.

Sae Ackerstein of the Santa Cruz Surf Lifesaving Association took second place in the Open Women’s Board Relay, ninth place in the Board Race and tenth place in IronWoman and Surf Ski.

Santa Cruz City Amateurs: Jed Dy of Rancho Santa Fe took the lead in the first round of the championship flight at the Santa Cruz City Amateur at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Saturday.

Dy, a junior on the George Washington University golf team from Makati, Philippines, opened with a 66.

Billy Moon of East Garrison is second with 67.

Alaric Mercie De Soultrait, a San Jose State University junior from Biarritz, France, is tied for third place at 69 with Hem Singh of San Francisco.

Zac Bischoff of San Francisco, a graduate of Soquel High, Kyle Davis of Santa Cruz and Brian Walker of San Diego are tied for fifth place with even-par 70.

Neil Ostermann of Santa Cruz, the 2022 champion, is one of three players tied at 71. Defending champion Peter Wood of Santa Cruz started with 75 points.

Michele Thiltgen leads the women’s flight (net) with 68.

Bob Johnson of Vacaville leads the senior group with 71. Rich Gleghorn of Santa Cruz shot 74 to lead the super senior group.

The top group of the championship flight group starts on Sunday at 9:06 a.m.
