Man arrested after attempted break-in into parking garage with knife

On Saturday at around 7:27 p.m., Turlock Police responded to a weapons incident at Donnelly Park in the 600 block of Pedras Road.

The caller reported that a man with a knife tried to enter the restrooms where a woman and a child were.

Officers arrived on scene and made contact with 49-year-old John Cervantes of Turlock, whom they immediately recognized from previous contacts.

Cervantes was on probation for assault with a deadly weapon (other than a firearm), and officers had been out with him twice the night before to pursue him for suspicious persons and trespassing.

Officers began investigating and concluded that Cervantes had not tried to enter the occupied restrooms, but rather a storage room in the same building.

The door to the storage room was damaged and a broken piece of a knife was stuck in it.

The other piece of the knife was found in Cervantes’ possession and recorded as evidence.

Cervantes also showed objective symptoms of being under the influence of an unknown drug.

Cervantes was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Department of Public Safety on charges of burglary, disorderly conduct and probation violation.
