Man breaks into house in Missoula and is caught with drugs

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – On August 7, 2024, several Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Montana Street. It was reported that two people were observed forcing their way into an unoccupied home through a basement window. When officers arrived, they found that a window was covered with chicken wire and that the chicken wire had been removed.

The complainant informed officers that the man who had entered the home was now standing next to a trailer parked near the home. Officers approached the man, later identified as 34-year-old Shawn Pierce. Pierce informed officers that the woman he was with had walked toward the Poverello Center.

Pierce was arrested and had a backpack on him. The backpack was open and officers could clearly see several Ziploc bags, a portable electronic scale, and a butane burner and container. Pierce was read his Miranda rights and then admitted that the backpack was his and that he had recently used methamphetamine.

While officers spoke with Pierce, other officers evacuated the home. They made several announcements and heard a female voice respond from the basement. She voluntarily left the home and was arrested.
