A man from Bath died on Tuesday in an industrial accident at a machine shop in the village.

Bath police identified the victim as Gerald C. Cleveland, age not given.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Clark Specialty at 36 Delaware Avenue to conduct an urgent welfare check, according to Bath police. Clark Specialty manufactures custom products for a variety of metals and plastics, the company’s website says.

Officers investigated a report that a man had been crushed by a wall and found Cleveland dead at the scene.

As a result of their investigation, police discovered that another person was cleaning scrap metal in the workshop following a fire in March of this year.

Investigators believe a piece of heavy equipment accidentally struck a concrete wall, causing it to become unstable. The wall then collapsed on Cleveland, causing fatal injuries, police said.
