Man drowns while swimming in restricted area in Turner Falls Park

MARIETTA, Okla. (KXII) – Davis Police Chief Dee Gregory said a group of people went swimming after hours in a cordoned off area of the park’s Falls Pool last Monday when two people got into a conflict in the water.

“We put up some buoys as a safety zone where they are not supposed to go for safety reasons, and the people got into the water there,” said Chief Gregory. “The girls couldn’t swim, but the man could,” he added.

The chief said 21-year-old Parajuli Koshal quickly jumped in to bring them to shore but was unable to get out of the water himself.

“The male was able to get one animal out without any problem and was able to help get the other female out, but he was unable to get her out and save himself,” Chief Gregory explained.

He says there are some safety precautions visitors should keep in mind before heading to Turner Falls, such as only swimming in designated areas during park hours.

“We want people to come and have fun, but they have to follow the rules to have fun and be safe,” said Chief Gregory.

He says signs and buoys are posted throughout the park to remind visitors to be safe.

“They are not to stop you from going under the waterfall, but for your safety so you don’t go under it and get into a dangerous situation,” Chief Gregory added.
