Police are searching for the suspect who they say randomly approached a man at the gas pump and shot him in the head.

The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday at a Speedway gas station on the corner of Parthenia St. and Tampa Ave. in Northridge.

According to Los Angeles police, the victim was filling up with gas when the suspect approached him and shot him. They say no words were exchanged between the two and police believe the shooting was random.

The suspect then fled on foot down Tampa Avenue.

According to police, the victim was awake and conscious. He went into the gas station’s convenience store and asked for help. He told the clerk that he had been shot. He also managed to call his family, who then came and picked up his car.

The 45-year-old victim was taken to hospital and his condition is unknown.

According to police, his life was most likely saved because the weapon could have been a small-caliber weapon, possibly even an air rifle.

Police have not released a description of the suspect.
