RUMSON – Spilled red wine sparked an altercation at a celebrity chef’s restaurant in Monmouth County Thursday night.
Rumson police Lt. Christopher Isherwood said police were called to the Red Horse restaurant on Ridge Road at the Avenue of the Two Rivers after customer David Gulley, 75, of Palm Beach Shores, Florida, pointed a knife at another customer.
According to Isherwood, officers also observed Gulley punching the manager of a restaurant before arresting him.
Gulley was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, disturbing the peace and simple assault. He was released with a summons.

A video of the incident posted on Reddit shows a manager trying to calm customers at two tables as they argue about the wine spill.
“You have a knife in your hand,” the victim says before Gulley charges at the victim. Gulley then falls on his butt.
The victim grabs Gulley’s hand with the knife and yells at him, calling him a “fucking piece of shit.” An employee intervenes and escorts the victim away. Police said the victim received a cut on his finger but declined medical treatment.
The blow was not captured on video.
The Red Horse is owned by celebrity chef David Burke, who has appeared on Iron Chef America and opened two other restaurants in New Jersey and nearly a dozen across the country.
