PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV/Gray News) – A Portland man is recovering after being stabbed more than a dozen times after winning the lottery.

According to court documents, a man was at Montana’s Bar in southeast Portland on Saturday night and won $2,000 on a video lottery machine.

There he met 61-year-old Pablo Figueroa.

According to authorities, Figueroa followed the man to his apartment and slipped through the security gate.

According to reports, Figueroa forced open the man’s apartment door, attacked him and beat him.

The lottery winner gave Figueroa cash, but ended up stabbed 15 times with a pocket knife, authorities said.

A neighbor who called 911 said she saw her neighbor and his friend covered in blood.

“We heard banging. We heard furniture. We heard screaming. We heard some kind of argument and then the stabbing happened,” said another neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.

Court documents show that police found the suspect along with the knife he used in a trash room at the apartment complex.

“We are deeply concerned about this incident and are working closely with authorities to support the affected resident. In addition, we are providing access to counseling services to ensure all residents feel supported during this time,” a spokesperson for the apartment complex said in a statement.

Figueroa has a criminal history dating back to 2021. He was charged with auto theft and identity theft, and was also charged with failure to appear for his court date.

According to court records, Figueroa is currently being held without bail and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
