Manchester City

Ederson Did nothing to prevent Gabriel’s header at the far post and was a spectator for the entire second half. 5

Kyle Walker A great performance. The right-back allowed Martinelli to set up Arsenal’s first goal from his side, then lost Gabriel, his first choice, for the Gunners’ second goal. 3

Ruben Dias Cautioned – and unsettled by Arsenal’s superiority. John Stones’ more pure footballing talent might have been a better choice, but he didn’t come on until 15 minutes from time – before scoring a goal. 5

Manuel Akanji Like Dias, the Swiss was unable to stop Arsenal’s aerial attacks from corners, but did not participate when City’s attack clashed with Arsenal’s defence in the second half. 5

Josko Gvardiol A goal threat. City’s inverted full-back penetrated the Gunners’ box before half-time but should have helped Walker stop Gabriel’s goal. 7

Rodri An afternoon to forget. He fell over after two seconds following contact with Kai Havertz. He then limped off the pitch with apparent knee problems after chasing the ball with Thomas Partey. 5

Savinho With a turn inside, he completely deceived Calafiori and created space for the pass that allowed Haaland to score the first goal. 7

Bernardo Silva The Portuguese was unable to replicate Kevin De Bruyne’s vicious cycle from central midfield but, like his teammates, refused to give up. 6

Ilkay Gundogan He missed a close-range volley, later hit the post and, strangely, played little role until he linked up with Jack Grealish for Stones’ goal. 7

Jeremy Documentary He was preferred to Grealish, but was taken off before half-time and, despite recovering, was eventually substituted. 6

Erling Haaland Ended a one-game dry spell with his trademark bull-like charge and finish, but his teammates failed to open the door for another scoring opportunity. 8

Substitute
Mateo Kovacic (for Rodri 21) 7
Phil Foden
(for documentary 70) N/A
Jack Grealish (for Savinho 79.) An important cross led to Stones’ finish. 7
John Stones
(for Walker, 79.) Will cherish his last-minute equaliser for a long time to come. 7

David Raya In the second half, he made excellent saves against three shots from Gvardiol (twice) and Haaland. But did the Spaniard perhaps have any idea where the number 9 would direct his shot (to the left of the goalkeeper)? 7

Jurrien Timber Most of the time he stifled Doku, although City’s left winger did occasionally beat him. 7

William Saliba Like Gabriel, he left a gap for Haaland to burst through and score, then stepped up his game and delivered a heroic performance in the second half. 7

Gabriel Magalhães Too open for Haaland’s opener, but a powerful header almost gave his team a famous 2-1 win and was part of Arsenal’s resilience throughout the game. 8

Riccardo Calafiori Stylish. Decorated his Premier League debut with a spectacular equaliser and enjoyed a thrilling battle with Savinho. 8

Bukayo Saka He was captain that day and played mainly a backcourt role. He took the corner that fell straight on Gabriel’s head and led to the second goal. He was sacrificed at half-time after Trossard’s sending off. 7

Declan Rice The midfielder was a model of concentration and worked bravely for his team, which made City’s last-minute equaliser particularly annoying. 7

Thomas Partey He and Rice were well groomed, barking at their teammates when to push and when to let up, and they fought to the end. 7

Gabriel Martinelli Impressed. Set up Calafiori’s wonder strike and stormed back whenever needed to support the team’s rebelliousness when City attacked them. 7

Kai Havertz Was often left alone when Trossard was lost. Was part of the visitors’ rearguard action, with all hands mobilised for reinforcement after the Belgian was shown a red card. 7

Leandro Trossard Two (avoidable) yellow cards led to him being sent off at the end of the first half. Before that, he had used his liveliness as one of two false nines to exploit Arsenal’s pressure on City. 2

Ben White (for Saka ht) 6
Jakob Kiwior
(for Calafiori 72) N/A
Gabriel Jesus
(for Martinelli) N/A
