Manchester City’s Rodri reportedly suffers a season-ending cruciate ligament injury

Manchester City’s Rodri reportedly suffers a season-ending cruciate ligament injury

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will be out for the rest of the season after tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee during the match against Arsenal.

Tests confirmed the injury, which he sustained in the 15th minute following a collision between himself and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, ESPN reported. The midfielder received treatment but was unable to continue and was substituted in the 21st minute.

It is a huge blow for City, who are seeking their fifth consecutive Premier League title and second Champions League crown. Adding to the injuries, Kevin De Bruyne missed Sunday’s game, having only played in 18 league games last season. Guardiola has said he is unsure when De Bruyne will return, leaving City with two gaps to fill in midfield.

Rodri has been a crucial part of Manchester City’s success in recent times, scoring the winning goal in the Champions League against Inter Milan as the team won the treble. Looking at City’s squad, he is arguably the only player for whom the team does not have an equal replacement who could come off the bench immediately, given his impact and tactical importance.

Manchester City have not lost a single Premier League game in 52 attempts with Rodri in the starting line-up, including Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
