Get ready to see orange carts pushing through the aisles soon.

After months of watching the building’s construction, The Home Depot finally confirmed the grand opening of its store on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway for Thursday, September 26, according to company spokeswoman Lauren Anderson.

She did not confirm any information about opening hours, events or special offers on the opening day.

The home improvement store has been years in the making. Plans were originally announced in 2007, but the company later put them on hold due to the Great Recession.

Last April, rumors surfaced again that a home improvement giant was coming to town, and construction began in December.

Then-City Manager Rick Horst said the store’s opening was a big step for Maricopa.

“Home Depot is an important retailer for us and will obviously attract others,” he said. “If you look around the greater Phoenix area and see one of these big boxes pop up, you’ll see that a lot of other companies are happy to locate next to it.”

That could mean even more money for the city. For example, in a presentation to the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce earlier this year, Horst estimated that Home Depot “will bring in about $1 million a year (in tax revenue) for the city.”

In fact, a Lowe’s home improvement store is expected to be built on a site near John Wayne Parkway on Honeycutt Avenue.
