Marshfield Medical Center-Park Falls completes Phase 1 of replacement project

PARK FALLS, Wis. (WSAW) – Marshfield Medical Center-Park Falls celebrated a milestone in its partial hospital replacement project with a ceremony in Park Falls on Tuesday.

Governor Tony Evers attended the event to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the project. The recently completed phase included the construction of new physical and occupational therapy facilities, an inpatient pharmacy and an 11-bed medical and surgical hospital unit.

“We are halfway through an exciting endeavor that will ensure the Park Falls region continues to have cutting-edge medical technology and an innovative healing environment for years to come,” said Ty Erickson, northern market president of Marshfield Clinic Health System, which includes Marshfield Medical Center-Park Falls.

“Every Wisconsin resident should have access to affordable, quality health care in our state, but we know that rural communities often face unique challenges that can get in the way of people getting the care they need,” said Governor Evers.

Highlights of the second phase of the $35 million project include a pharmacy, a new emergency room and new space for several rehabilitation facilities. Construction is ramping up following the current demolition of several decades-old buildings on campus. New flooring, furniture and lighting improvements will also upgrade the Park Falls medical offices and bring them in line with the look of the new campus.

The completion of the entire project is planned for 2025.

“A key aspect of this project is that the hospital and physician offices are and will remain fully operational,” Erickson said. “This means we are meeting the current healthcare needs of our patients while demonstrating our commitment to them in the future.”

The project is supported by a $20 million grant from the Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Investment Grant Program awarded by Governor Evers in March 2022.

The facility fills an important gap in healthcare in rural Wisconsin, as the closest comparable medical facility is about an hour away. These funds have allowed the facility to remain open and continue to serve the community, filling that gap while retaining jobs in the area.

To date, more than $100 million in grants have been awarded to support more than 25 health infrastructure projects statewide to address health care access needs in communities across the state, including the project at Marshfield Medical Center-Park Falls.

Marshfield Clinic Health System is working with Miron Construction Co. Inc. as the general contractor on the project and the architectural firm BWBR.
