Match updates, live results from week 4

The Louisville football team spent the first month of the 2024 season at home and benefited from it.

The 20th ranked Cardinals have 3 wins against Austin Peay and Jacksonville State before their off week. Today they begin the competitive portion of their schedule, hosting Georgia Tech at L&N Stadium for their ACC opener. The Yellow Jackets already have a conference loss after falling to Syracuse 31-28 on the road. U of L will look to inflict a second conference loss on Georgia Tech and even the overall series with a second straight win over the Yellow Jackets.

Louisville posted a league record of 7-1 in the regular season and an appearance in the ACC Championship Game in Jeff Brohm’s debut season with the Cardinals.

After the Cardinals’ goal line stand, Tyler Shough tripped over teammate Don Chaney’s foot in the end zone and couldn’t throw the ball fast enough before it reached the turf for a safety.

Ja’Corey Brooks caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Shougheven while taking a pass interference penalty from Tech cornerback Ahmari Harvey. Both Brooks and Harvey appeared to stop on the play when the flag was thrown, but Brooks kept running and caught the ball, practically walking into the end zone.

Aidan Burr kicked a 26-yard field goal as Tech coach Brent Key decided against it on fourth-and-one from the U of L 4 after implementing the same scenario from the U of L 16 just a few plays earlier.

Jamal Hayes scored a touchdown on the fourth attempt and a 1-yard run, capping a 75-yard touchdown drive just before halftime.

Brock Travelstead finished an 11-play, 75-yard drive with a 27-yard field goal.

Chris Bell threw a short 37-yard pass for a touchdown when Georgia Tech was caught blitzing and Bell remained in single coverage.

Defensive end Ramon Puryear recovered a fumble in the end zone after cornerback Quincy Riley blocked a lateral attempt by Haynes King. It was Puryear’s second touchdown of the season.

Haynes King converted a third-and-one attempt by calling his own number and running unchallenged up the middle for a 23-yard touchdown.

Georgia Tech’s Jordan van den Berg blocked a 45-yard field goal attempt by U of L’s Brock Travelstead.

Injury news at Louisville Football: Maurice Turner out

U of L will be without starting running back Maurice Turner and third-string linebacker TJ Capers in the game against Georgia Tech.

The Cardinals will honor the jersey of former wide receiver Harry Douglas during their ACC opener against Georgia Tech. The Floridian native was also featured on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” where reporter Harry Lyles Jr. wore Douglas’ No. 85 jersey.

Douglas is the University of Louisiana’s second-leading receiving yards player, totaling 2,924 yards during his time with the Cardinals (2004-07). He set the program’s single-game receiving record by hauling in 223 yards in a 40-34 loss to Kentucky in 2007.

Douglas is one of two Cardinals whose jerseys will be honored this season. Former standout quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be honored during U of L’s game against Miami on Oct. 19.
