McDermott wins Shell’s EPCI contract for gas production in the Caribbean

Offshore engineering and construction company McDermott has secured an engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), connection and commissioning contract from Shell for the development of the Manatee gas field offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

The award follows the successful implementation of front-end engineering design, detailed designs and procurement services contracts with long lead time for the initial design and execution planning of the project.

Under the contract, McDermott will design, procure, manufacture, connect and commission a platform and jacket.

The company will also provide design, installation and commissioning services for a 32-inch gas pipeline that will connect the platform to a gas processing plant operated by Shell.

The scope of the contract also includes design, procurement, installation and testing services for a fiber optic cable.

“This contract underscores our unique, integrated EPCI capabilities and our long history of engineering excellence and innovation to successfully deliver large offshore platforms and complex subsea infrastructure around the world,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, senior vice president of subsea and floating assets at McDermott.

In July, Shell Trinidad and Tobago, a subsidiary of Shell, took the final investment decision (FID) for the Manatee project, an undeveloped gas field in the East Coast Marine Area (ECMA).

The Manatee gas field will serve as a replacement for the country’s Atlantic LNG plant.

The project is scheduled to begin production in 2027. Once online, Manatee is expected to reach peak production of approximately 104,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) (604 MMscf/d).

Shell is the operator of Manatee and holds a 100% stake.
