LANSING, MI – A player from Texas was the sole winner of the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot in the drawing on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The win marks only the third time this year that someone has hit a Mega Millions jackpot.

The $800 million prize is the seventh-largest ever won in Mega Millions history.

The winning numbers are: 1-2-16-24-66

Megaplier: 4

Mega Millions winners for September 10:

• In addition to the grand prize winner, four players won $1 million in the drawing by matching all five white balls drawn. These tickets were sold in California, Florida, New York and Washington.
• Additionally, none of these players used the Megaplier option, which would have increased their winnings to $4 million.
• In Michigan, three tickets sold in the drawing won $10,000, the largest prize won in the state.
• There were 1,006,420 tickets sold that won at least $4 in the drawing. In Michigan, 38,128 tickets sold won at least $4 in the drawing.

The Mega Millions drawing takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Five balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70; the Mega Ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 25. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 each.

The last Michigan players to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot are the Breakfast Club lottery club, which won a jackpot of $842 million in June 2024. Members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And even though they were lucky winners, it’s wise for players to check their tickets immediately, as a $1 million Mega Millions prize sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money went to the state’s school aid fund instead.
