MERRILL, Wis. (WJFW) – The need for blood continues to be great and the Community Blood Center held its Merrill MASH blood drive at the Northwoods Veterans Post on Thursday, August 8. One blood donation can save three lives and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.

The need for blood is always there and whether it’s a first-time donor or someone like Ron Burrow who has been donating for 70 years, it can save someone’s life.

“When I got married, my wife needed blood for her first baby. I had been donating since I was 16 and she needed blood, so I started donating then and just kept going,” said Ron Burrow, a blood donor.

“The demand just never stops. Blood products are constantly needed due to surgeries, illnesses and various traumas,” says Rebecca Perkins, account manager at the Community Blood Center.

For each blood donation, donors received lunch and a free shirt and contributed to another good cause.

“For every donor that comes by today, we will give a donation back to the post office in honor of today’s event,” Perkins said.

The next trip will take place on August 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Wausau. You can register here.
