Second closure in a month due to cockroaches, says state inspector.

A restaurant in West Boca Raton had to close twice within a month due to cockroach infestations.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Quates Mexican Restaurant 2, located at 9858 Clint Moore Road in Boca Raton, has temporarily closed for the second time in just a month. Like the original closure reported by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the July 31 closure was due to cockroaches. The restaurant has reopened.

According to BocaNewsNow.com’s policy, the following is a list of violations recorded by the State of Florida. We do not edit this list or state agency records:

High Priority – Presence of roach activity as evidenced by live roaches found. Approximately 5 live roaches observed on the underside of the table at the beverage station in the dining room. 1 live roach observed on the floor at the beverage station in the dining room. 1 live roach observed on the electrical cord behind the beverage station in the dining room. 1 live roach observed between the wall and triple sink in the dishwashing area. 1 live roach observed on the wall above the triple sink in the dishwashing area. 1 live roach observed on the wall in the laundry area in the kitchen area. 5 live roaches observed on the floor under the flat top on the cook line in the kitchen. 3 live roaches observed inside the wheel of a two-door lowtop refrigerator on the cook line in the kitchen. 2 live roaches observed on the underside of a shelf in the to-go area in front of the cook line in the kitchen. 1 live cockroach observed on a shelf of dry storage items in front of the cook line in the kitchen. 2 live roaches observed on the flat table top on the display line in front of the cook line. 5 live roaches observed on the inside of the door jamb to the liquor storage room in the kitchen. 1 live roach observed on the floor under reach in the cold room in the bar area. 5 live roaches observed on the inside of the gasket of a 2-door low cold room on the cook line in the kitchen. **Repeat Violation** **Warning**

Basic – Dead roaches on premises. 1 dead roach observed on dining table in dining room. 1 dead roach observed on shelf at beverage station in dining room. 5 dead roaches observed on floor in laundry area in kitchen area. 1 dead roach observed on shelf in liquor storage room. 5 dead roaches observed in control panel at bar **Repeat Violation** **Warning**

Basic equipment – Equipment in poor condition. Seals in the cooling area on the cooking line in poor condition **Warning**

Intermediate – Food Manager certification expired.

Moderate – Surface that comes into contact with food is contaminated with food residue, mold-like substances or slime. Cutting boards are stained/dirty, have cut marks and can no longer be cleaned. **Warning**

Moderate – For some employees, required employee training has expired.

Quates Mexican Restaurant 2 was closed at 1:19 p.m. on July 31 and was permitted to reopen at 3:52 p.m. on August 1. Another unannounced inspection of the restaurant is pending.
