Michael Jordan’s $15 million Chicago home is in the TikTok controversy

Michael Jordan’s million Chicago home is in the TikTok controversy

Michael JordanThe $14 million Chicago home is making headlines again after being on the market for 12 years.

The 61-year-old NBA legend initially put the lavish mansion up for sale in 2012, asking a whopping $29 million for it. The following year, he lowered the price to $16 million.

In 2015, the price was reduced again – this time apparently to remind buyers of the sporting significance of the site in Highland Park, Illinois.

The new list price? $14,855,000, in honor of Jordan’s longtime jersey number, 23. The sum of 1, 4, 8, 5, and 5 equals 23.

But this maneuver did nothing to increase the attractiveness of the property, and it remained on the market at this price for the past nine years.

The property was largely abandoned until a so-called “urban explorer” claimed to have broken into the house in January and subsequently released a video allegedly filmed inside the house.

The footage sparked a lot of interest on TikTok. Representatives for Jordan stressed that the video was not shot at his home. Realtor.com® has reached out to Jordan’s spokesperson for further comment.

The urban explorer, who goes by the name “Decaying Midwest” on TikTok, claimed he found interiors that were far less appealing than the splendor and luxury one would expect from a high-profile property.

The original video has since been deleted, but several fan accounts have reposted footage of a flooded basketball court, the logo of Jordan’s longtime team. Chicago Bullsin the middle.

The kitchen in the video – which was not confirmed to have been shot in Jordan’s home – was in similarly poor condition and did not appear to have completed renovations.

The footage shows cupboard doors lying on the floor, water bottles left on the countertops and pieces of wood scattered around the room.

The video also showed off some attractive features, including a stunning sauna, spacious living spaces, elegant chandeliers and a luxurious home theater.

For Jordan, this video stunt also has something good: His property is back in the headlines and perhaps also in the attention of real estate buyers. But a possible sale is a long-term prospect for the NBA legend, who Charlotte Hornets.

According to Forbes, Jordan has an estimated net worth of $3.2 billion, with much of that wealth coming from the sale of his majority stake in the Hornets for $3 billion in the summer of 2023.

Jordan also owns several homes across the United States, including a rental property in Utah, a penthouse in Chicago, and a lake house in his home state of North Carolina.
